What does a resistor do?

Updated: Sep 27

A resister is a passive two terminal electronic component that creates a resistance in a circuit. In short, it reduces the flow of current.

Let's have a look at a sample resistor

This is a picture of two resistors in my palm. They have a resistance of 1kΩ and 100kΩ respectively (we'll learn about resistor color codes later).

But what are its applications? Why do we need resistors?

The ability to reduce current is required in many applications such as filter circuits, in sensors such as photoresistor that are used in flame detectors and much more.

Yes, resistors are simple but cool components that have a variety of applications in our daily life!
